Construction Safety Gear

When Construction Safety Gear Increases Risk

Construction safety gear is beyond important to the well being of the workforce and the profitability of the construction company. We believe that most construction companies strive to assure that their workforce is safe; however, there are tons of injuries, illnesses and fatalities that occur in the construction industry.

Safety equipment supplies are usually readily available to be used by the workers, but sometimes it just doesn't live up to its expectations. The presence of safety gear may make the workers have a false sense of safety.

For instance, a fall protective harness is intended to protect the workers from extreme injury or death causes by a fall from structures. It is supposed to "catch" them before they hit the ground or other harmful fixtures.

If the construction safety gear is worn out, defective or if it isn't worn properly, it can actually contribute to the injury or fail to provide the protection that is intended. This false sense of safety can be avoided by making sure that the workers know how to use the safety equipment supplies properly and by inspecting the safety gear daily to identify problems. Defective gear should be replaced when the defects are identified.

The same goes with workwear clothing. For instance, if a safety vest has a tear or loose material, it may actually become a hazard because the clothing can be caught up in industrial equipment. Making sure that the workwear clothing, safety equipment and safety supplies are available, in top-notch shape and that the workers know how to use it will go far in protecting the workforce and the profitability of the business.
